Platte B. Moring, III to Serve Political Appointment at the Department of Defense


Philadelphia, PA – White and Williams is proud to announce that Platte B. Moring, III has received a political appointment as Special Assistant to the General Counsel at the Department of Defense.

Mr. Moring was a partner at White and Williams and Managing Partner of the Lehigh Valley office from 1991 to January 2019.

Mr. Moring’s main duties at the Office of General Counsel of the Defense Department will be reviewing legislation pertaining to the Department, assisting in the defense of litigation against the Department, and supporting the military tribunals of the detainees from the global war on terrorism.

The political appointment is a culmination of Mr. Moring’s civil litigator and military lawyer careers. In addition to serving as a law clerk to the former President Judge of the U.S. Court of International Trade in 1983, Mr. Moring also worked at the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice for five years, until 1989.

He served as Command Judge Advocate of the 213th Area Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard from 1989 until 2005, and Command Judge Advocate for the Office of Military Cooperation-Afghanistan from 2003 to 2004.

Lieutenant Colonel Moring received the Bronze Star for outstanding performance in a combat zone for his deployment to Afghanistan in 2003-2004.

Mr. Moring’s duty location is the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia where his appointment will be effective January 22, 2019.
