Liberty Bell Award Recipients
The Law Day Committee of the Bar Association of Lehigh County presents the “Liberty Bell Award” to one deserving recipient. Past recipients of the Bar Association of Lehigh County LIBERTY BELL AWARD have included:

1998: Mr. Richard J. Makoul, Esquire [posthumous], renowned criminal defense lawyer, regarded by many as “the conscience of defense lawyers”
1999: The Hon. Edward N. Cahn, former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
2000: The Hon. James Knoll Gardner, President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania

Liberty Bell Award Criteria
Honor a leader in their community for contributing to the promotion of freedom under the law.
Criteria
- Encourages a greater respect for law and the courts
- Promote a better understanding of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights
- Contributes to the effective functioning of our institutions of government
- Fosters a better understanding and appreciation of the rule of law in the community
- Stimulates a deeper sense of individual responsibility so that citizens recognize their rights.
