Lawyer Referral Service

TO MAKE APPOINTMENT, CALL 610.433.7094

The Lawyer Referral Service was inaugurated by the Lehigh County Bar Association in 1978 to provide a much needed opportunity for individuals to obtain legal advice for a moderate fee. This effort is the result of recognition by the local bar association that legal counsel is a right guaranteed under our Constitution. The LRS assists both the profession and the public. It provides clients with appropriate legal services and attorneys with an opportunity to build their law practice. The Lawyer Referral Service is available to everyone in the community who feels that they may need legal advice and who does not have a lawyer or know how to go about finding one.

On request, the Lawyer Referral Service office will make an appointment for participating clients with a lawyer who is a member of the Lawyer Referral Service of Lehigh County. For the use of the service and a half-hour consultation with an attorney, the cost paid to the Lawyer Referral Service is $50. There is no other charge and no obligation to pay more or go further. However, if more legal work is needed, this can be arranged at a cost agreed upon by the client and the attorney who does the work.

The $50 fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

For more information or to arrange for a Lawyer Referral, please email BALC or you may download the application.

Modest Means Program (MMP)

The Bar Association of Lehigh County and Lawyer Referral Service is now offering legal services at a substantially reduced rate to clients who fall within the financial guidelines of the program.

The MMP is designed to help clients who do not qualify for legal aid through North Penn Legal Services (NPLS), but cannot afford an attorney at regular attorney fees. The client will complete an intake form to determine eligibility for the MMP. If they qualify, they will be referred to an attorney who is a member of the program and will receive representation or have documents prepared at a reduced rate – determined by the MMP. Clients who do not qualify will be referred out through the Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) as a normal procedure of the service.

Types of cases MMP handles:

  • Child Support
  • Child Custody
  • Uncontested Divorce
  • PFA (Defendants Only)
  • Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
  • Collections Defense
  • Simple Wills
  • Power of Attorney
  • Health Care Power of Attorney
  • Living Wills
